During Fred Harris’s 36-year tenure at the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, he served as a research biologist, chief of fisheries and chief deputy director of the agency. His main interests are management of freshwater fish populations, integration of nongame and game fish management and collaboration among agencies and nongovernmental organizations.
Another area of professional interest for Fred has been the establishment of Native Fish Conservation Areas (NFCAs) and he worked to establish the Little Tennessee River Native Fish Conservation Partnership with the North Carolina Wildlife Confederation.
Fred is also a past president of the American Fisheries Society.
