John Tiedemann is currently Assistant Dean in the School of Science at Monmouth University and Director of the University’s Marine and Environmental Biology and Policy Program where he teaches courses in environmental biology and coastal zone management.
Mr. Tiedemann received a B.S. in Physics and Planetary Sciences from Upsala College in 1976 and an M.S. in Biological Oceanography from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1980. His work over the past 40 years has addressed a wide range of marine and environmental science and natural resource management issues in the region.
In 2011, he initiated an angler-based research and education campaign in collaboration with the recreational angling community in New Jersey entitled Stripers for the Future. The goal of Stripers for the Future is to develop scientifically-based best practices that can reduce angler-induced stress and increase the survival of released striped bass and educate anglers on these techniques so that they can contribute to the conservation and long-term sustainability of the striped bass fishery.
A lifelong resident of New Jersey, when not at work he can be found surfing or fishing along New Jersey’s northern coast.
