World Fish Migration Day 2024

World Fish Migration Day is a global awareness campaign celebrated every two years to highlight the connections that migratory fishes have with human and non-human species, lands, and waters. This day is marked by celebrations, events, and action campaigns organized by people around the world to connect fish, rivers, and people.

Around the world, migratory fish are ecologically, culturally, economically, and recreationally important, yet many migratory fish species are critically endangered or threatened. The main causes are man-made barriers which disrupt the natural flow of rivers and block the migratory routes that are necessary for these fish to reproduce, feed and complete their life cycles. The theme for 2024 is Free Flow, to emphasize the need for free-flowing rivers.
