About FCF

Purpose

The Fisheries Conservation Foundation (FCF) is a nonprofit organization that promotes the conservation of our aquatic resources in both freshwater and marine environments throughout the world.

We work to extend scientific knowledge beyond the confines of academic publications and conferences so that the choices made about the use of our freshwater and marine ecosystems are logical, informed, and based on long-term sustainable principles.

We Believe

Although people from all walks of life may care passionately about the health and welfare of aquatic resources, there is a lack of connection among the knowledge of resource scientists, how this is relevant to citizen and user groups, and those that make decisions affecting the health of our rivers, lakes, and oceans. Without open communication that actively transfers knowledge and ideas among these stakeholders, there will always be confusion and disagreement over how best to manage aquatic resources.

Our philosophy underscores the interconnection between humanity, water, and aquatic life. Without acknowledging the significance of this delicate balance, the ramifications of resource-based decisions can be profoundly detrimental. While there is no one answer that will make everyone happy, we believe that balanced solutions do exist that can honor the connections between fish, water, and people.

Questions We Address

  • How best can scientists, anglers, and other enthusiasts of the river, lake, and ocean environments come together to create innovative solutions to protect what we love?

  • What common ground can be found when considering protection of the resource and the needs of various stakeholders?

  • How can we constructively inject professional, science-oriented knowledge into policy development?

  • Where can we most effectively invest our resources to make a continuous and lasting change?

  • How can we expand public access to fact-based information so that an increase in awareness directly effects public action and involvement?
